If you look at the oath of office the President takes, it is not, “I will do anything possible to safeguard the national security of the United States.” It is, “I will protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.” And Obama himself frequently said we are not only able, but better able to defend the country when our leaders are constrained by the rule of law, because when you’re not constrained by the rule of law, that’s when you start doing abusive things that actually make things a lot worse.
